The provenance research is inconclusive: it is not known how, when or under what circumstances Kunsthandel P. de Boer, Amsterdam, acquired this painting. De Boer voluntarily sold this painting to Dr Hupp for the Stadtmuseum Düsseldorf in November 1943.
